Christopher de Leon Recalls Career Struggles Due To Bad Attitude

“It gets into your head sometimes, especially kung bata-bata ka. You feel like you’re still Superman

Multi-awarded actor Christopher de Leon reveals that he lost the spotlight back in his golden years as an actor due to his unruly behavior.

The 66-year-old actor shares this in a YouTube interview with Korina Sanchez on Sunday, April 30, 2023.

Christopher goes candid and admits that a temporary fall-down happened when he was young and his career was in the greens. According to him, his attitude had made film directors revoke his interest in him.

“Nobody wanted to get me because I was a pain in the neck. Kasi there was a time, ‘yung producer ko na ang nanggigising sa akin sa room ko. ‘Wake up, may trabaho tayo!’ So, I became a headache. They shied away from me,” he says.

Christopher also admits that the effect was drastic—from savings to properties. “Nasangla na ‘yung bahay, nabangga na ‘yung mga kotse ko. I had zero balance in the bank. Umabot na ako doon,” he recalls.

He also reminisced that the decline, which lasted for five to seven years, was from his vicious use of liberty. “I was on my own. I had my own house, and every weekend, istambay ng grupo, parties left and right,” the actor reveals.

At the cost of his career then he only realized that he was “blinded by the fame,” prompting him to maneuver from his old ways.

At the time, his family stood as Christopher’s source of inspiration. “You have a family. Mare-realize mo that you are fortunate to have all of this and you’re just throwing it away. Hindi puwede. Hindi tama,” he says.

Christopher de Leon had other ordeals

On the road to redemption, tribulations met him face-first as his son and wife actress Sandy Andolong both got hospitalized.

When his son was rushed to the hospital he recalls, “My face was in the corner of the wall already, praying. I need help here. Super overwhelming ‘yung situation. Hindi mo na ma-grasp.

Nandoon na ako sa wall. There was a commotion already, code blue and all that. He was able to recover from all of that. So far so good, wala na for eight years already.”

Another blow got Christopher as his wife Sandy had to go through a kidney transplant.

Despite all the odds, the actor managed to recuperate from the struggles, ultimately salvaging his career. To date, Christopher is one of the cast members of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.” While he is seen mostly in television and film, he attests that what he went through cannot be translated into film.

Hindi mo maisasapelikula ‘yung nangyari. Ang hirap artehin noon. You cannot explain the feeling, the emotion, the intensity of what was happening. You cannot film that. Hindi ko kayang artehin ‘yun for sure,” he shares.
