Singer Coco Lee fought against breast cancer before her death.
According to her sister Nancy, Coco underwent surgery in 2022 to remove a tumor from her breast. The 48-year-old singer, which was revealed to be struggling with depression, passed away on July 5 following a suicide attempt at her home three days earlier.
The news of her passing deeply saddened her friend, musician, and producer Jae Chong, who expressed his devastation on Instagram. Jae revealed that Coco had secretly battled cancer in the past few months and praised her as a “true fighter.”
Nancy said Coco underwent surgery but chose not to share her illness with their mother to spare her worry. In February of this year, Coco faced another surgery to address an old injury.
Nancy has also debunked news coming out about Coco’s death. According to her, the exact cause of her death will be disclosed once the autopsy report is available.
Nancy also requested the public to refrain from giving speculations about her late sister.
In an interview with Hong Kong media, Nancy described Coco as a “very positive person” who devoted herself to her career. Despite her challenges, Coco remained focused on sharing only good news. Nancy shared that Coco had high expectations for herself and gave her all in her showbiz career.
As for Coco’s personal life, Nancy mentioned that Coco was “persistent in love” and looked up to her husband, Bruce Rockowitz, as a father figure.
The couple tied the knot in 2011 after dating for eight years. However, before her death, Coco has been preparing for her divorce with her husband.
