Did Kim Kardashian Violate Vatican Dress Code?

It seems like it’s been a while since 40-year old business mogul Kim Kardashian made headlines for being inappropriately dressed, but to anyone’s surprise (or not), she’s done it again.

Kardashian, who is currently on vacation in Italy, turned heads when she made a visit to the Vatican in an off-the-shoulder, lace outfit. Accompanied by former supermodel Kate Moss and her daughter Lila Grace, the mom of four was photographed looking chic in her white cutout dress.

While the look wouldn’t have been a problem anywhere else, the Vatican does have a specific dress code.

On its website, the Vatican details: “Entry to the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Gardens is permitted only to appropriately dressed visitors.”

“Sleeveless and/or low-cut garments, shorts above the knee, miniskirts and hats are not permitted. The requirement of decorum extends also to any visible personal objects as well as similarly visible distinctive personal signs (such as, for example, tattoos) that may offend Catholic morality, the Catholic religion, and common decency,” the website further specified.

Aside from the revealing aspects of the dress, its color also struck a chord with some people. Traditionally, white lace was reserved for Catholic queens who visited the Vatican; most other visitors wear black.

And while this rule is no longer enforced, the Vatican’s strict guidelines on inappropriate clothing still stand.

Kardashian did, however, adhere to the dress code in one way or another. She was reportedly wearing a long black leather coat while inside the church and chapel.

A source gave the scoop on the trio’s visit: “They spent lots of time learning the history and admiring all of the beautiful details. They stopped to take photos of Michelangelo’s artwork and statue. They entered St. Peter’s Basilica where they watched mass. They enjoyed all of the incredible beauty of the Vatican and paused many times to take it all in.”

The SKIMS founder was allowed a private, two-and-a-half hour tour of the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica, along with Moss and her daughter.
