Disney Officially Announces “Toy Story 5”

The House Of Mouse is bringing back a lot of familiar faces.

During Disney‘s 2023 Financial Results conference call, CEO Bob Iger has announced that “Toy Story 5” is in the works. “Frozen 3” and “Zootopia 2” were among the few projects also revealed at the event.

The announcement comes after the release of the franchise’s final film in 2019. In 2022, Chris Evans led a spin-off titled “Lightyear.” The original “Toy Story” director John Lassater, however, was reportedly critical of the film.

“Toy Story 4” ended on a sad note, with Woody riding out into the sunset with Bo Peep and her sheep.

For the time being, no casting news have been released. But the statement alludes to a reunion between Buzz and Tom Hanks’ Cowboy. The two parted ways at the end of “Toy Story 4.”

Tim Allen has reacted to the sequel’s official announcement. This may confirm his and Tom Hanks’ Woody’s return to the big screen.

He writes on Twitter, “See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity. And off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond”

“Toy Story 5” has no formal release date, and Bob Iger did not say how far along the work would take.

“Toy Story” first premiered in 1995 and raked in $394.4 million in the box office. Three sequels were then released after, which were shown in 1999, 2010, and 2019 respectively. The spin-off “Lightyear” was released in 2022.
