“Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi” Game Officially Announced

Everyone’s favorite “DBZ” game is back with a new installment!

The “Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi” series is returning, according to Bandai Namco. The game arrives more than 15 years after the franchise’s previous mainline release.

“Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi” was first released in 2005 for the PlayStation 2. The franchise received two sequels for the PS2 and Wii in the two years that followed. While the original trilogy had many spin-offs, the series has not seen a new mainstream title since 2007’s “Budokai Tenkaichi 3.”

The Budokai Tenkaichi games are 3D fighting games starring several “Dragon Ball Z” characters. This teaser clip doesn’t say whether the new game is “Budokai Tenkaichi 4” or another offshoot, but it’s been a long wait for fans.

A quick teaser at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2023 confirms the new game is in development.

The teaser begins with a TV playing old footage before moving to all-new graphics and Super Saiyan Blue Goku. The text “Get Ready for Fight” shows up, followed by “A New Budokai Tenkaichi Starts.” The video didn’t confirm a title, verified platforms, or release date. “Dragon Ball Z: Sparking!” is the Japanese name for the Budokai franchise.

An english version of the trailer from an unofficial live stream reads, “A New Budokai Tenkaichi Starts.”

Despite the ratings for the first three games in the series peaking at 7.3, the franchise has a huge fan base among “DBZ” enthusiasts.

In recent years, “Dragon Ball” fighting game enthusiasts have been playing “Dragon Ball FighterZ.” Those searching for a more straightforward adaption may check out “Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot,” which was recently released on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
