Dwayne Johnson Reveals “Black Adam” Release Date

It’s been quite an eventful last few months for DCEU fans everywhere. From the Wonder Woman 1984 premiere last Christmas and the Snyder Cut release earlier this month to the new Suicide Squad 2 trailer just a few days ago, it’s been packed with news. Well, that’s not the last of it, because we finally have a release date for Black Adam!

The date was first unveiled by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the star of the upcoming movie, in a short TBS spot that was aired right before the UCLA vs. Alabama tournament game. Johnson appeared in the spot, saying, “The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change. This is Black Adam,” before the movie’s title card appeared before showing the release date: July 29, 2022.

Johnson also posted a video of the announcement taking over the screens at New York Times Square on Twitter and Instagram. In the announcement, the Black Adam title card appeared again with Johnson’s booming voice-over.

Black Adam is a spinoff and sequel of DCEU’s Shazam! (2019). It will follow the iconic titular villain and anti-hero. The movie will also feature the Justice Society of America, which includes Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, and Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher. Jaume Collet-Serra, who directed Unknown (2011) and Orphan (2009), will helm the film.

The movie was originally slated for a December 2021 release with filming originally scheduled to begin in July 2020. However, because of the pandemic, production was delayed.
