Emma Mackey Confirms She Won’t Be Returning For “Sex Education” Season 5

Are you ready to say goodbye to Maeve?

Emma Mackey, star of the Netflix sitcom “Sex Education,” has announced that she will leave the show after its fourth season.

Mackey has announced this to the press after receiving her BAFTA Rising Star Award for 2023.

“Season five? I’ve just finished the fourth one last week,” the actress says. “No, I don’t think I’ll be in season five. I’ve said goodbye to Maeve.”

In October 2022, Mackey first revealed to the press that we wouldn’t see her as much as before in the series’ fourth season, which is set to air sometime in 2023.

She said that filming season four is more “sporadic” due to the addition of many new characters. Because of this, she’s “not in it as consistently.”

Another reason for Mackey’s lack of scenes is that her character, Maeve, left to study in the US in the last season.

Mackey isn’t the only cast member set to leave “Sex Education.” Ncuti Gatwa has also announced his departure a couple of weeks ago.

The actor took to Instagram to bid farewell to his character. He writes in his caption, “Last day. Last time. Bye bubs. Thank you for all the lessons and for all the strength.”

As for Mackey, it looks like she’s ready to move forward and tells fans to do the same. She says, “We can all move on and take what we learned from ‘Sex Ed’ as well because it has been a school—quite literally—for all of us.”

The fourth season of “Sex Education” is scheduled to drop sometime this 2023 on Netflix.
