FIRST LOOK: Netflix releases photos from Chadwick Boseman’s last film “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”

Netflix released the first look images from the upcoming film “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” which is thought to be Chadwick Boseman’s last acting role before his death.

Directed by George C. Wolfe and based on August Wilson’s play in 1982, the drama is set in 1920s Chicago and follows the story of “Mother of Blues” Ma Rainey, which is starred by Viola Davis, who fights for her rights and tries to take control of her music.

Boseman, who was known for his role as King T’Challa in the Marvel movie “Black Panther,” portrays the role of Levee, a trumpeter in Ma Rainey’s session band.

Boseman died at his home in Los Angeles last August 28 after a private battle with colon cancer for four years. He was 43.

When he passed away, several celebrities mourned for his loss including his co-star Davis.

“Chadwick, no words to express my devastation of losing you. Your talent, your spirit, your heart, your authenticity. It was an honor working beside you, getting to know you. Rest well prince. May flights of angels sing thee to thy heavenly rest. I love you,” she wrote at the time.

Davis and Boseman’s co-stars include Colman Domingo, Glynn Turman, and Taylor Paige, and is produced by Denzel Washington, Todd Black, and Dany Wolf. The film is set to premiere this December 18.
