Gaya Sa Pelikula season 2

JP Habac Answers: “Will There Be A Season 2 of ‘Gaya Sa Pelikula?'”

Does JP Habac plans to do a second season of “Gaya Sa Pelikula?”

The digital series “Gaya Sa Pelikula” was one of the most successful BL projects during the pandemic. Headlined by Ian Pangilinan and Paolo Pangilinan, the web series was produced by ANIMA Studios and directed by JP Habac.

The show earned so much of a following that, after being aired on YouTube, the series was picked up by Netflix. Until now, however, fans want to see the continuation of the love story of Karl (Paolo) and Vlad (Ian). Hence, fans have been clamoring for a second season.

During the recent #ParinigMoWithSpotify event, FreebieMNL caught up with Habac and asked if there will be a season two of “Gaya Sa Pelikula.”

Habac answers with a smile, “Actually, ang makakasagot talaga niyan ay ang ANIMA.”

But while he remains non-committal with a second season, Habac is thankful to the fans of “Gaya Sa Pelikula.” He shares, “Sobrang thankful pa rin ako doon sa naging reception ng ‘Gaya Sa Pelikula’ kasi sobrang unexpected din ng reception doon sa series and yung team ay sobrang thankful.”

Habac is also happy with the achievements that their lead stars have attained. After “Gaya Sa Pelikula,” both Ian and Paolo were able to land roles in other shows and movies.

Of this, Habac says, “Masaya ako sa achievements nila and I think yung mga achievements nila ngayon, hardwork nila yun and ibibigay ko yun sa kanila.”

New series with ANIMA

Meanwhile, Habac is working on another queer series titled “Marahuyo Project.” The difference of this from “Gaya Sa Pelikula” is that it features a queer barkada, in the same vein of the barkada shows that many grew up with: “T.G.I.S.,” “Gimik,” “G-Mik,” and “Click.”

Habac tells FreebieMNL about the series: “It’s a coming-of-age gay love story pero it’s a queer barkada. Bilang lumaki ako sa mga barkada series, growing up, wala akong napanuod ever na Pinoy na it’s a queer barkada na I felt ako yung part ng ganitong klaseng barkada. So, parang yun yung naging isang theme kung paano namin na-create yung series.”

The eight-part digital series will star Adrian Lindayag, Tommy Alejandrino, Lance Reblando, Ryle Santiago, Yani Villarosa (AKA yanihatesu), AJ Sison, Nour Hooshmand, Ian Villa, and Neo France Garcia. For the airing date, Habac says, “Hopefully, ma-release siya this year.
