If you’re a huge fan of anime, here’s some good news for you: there’s a new Rurouni Kenshin anime project in development! Initially introduced to the world in 1994, the manga series has snowballed into an anime series, video games, live-action films, stage shows, and even light novels. Now, we’re getting more Rurouni Kenshin anime content to enjoy!
It was announced during the recently concluded Jump Festa ’22 event that a new TV anime project based on Nobuhiro Watsuki’s Rurouni Kenshin manga is now in development at Liden Films. To hype fans up, the announcement was made alongside a 20-second teaser posted by anime streaming platform Aniplex. Other details, such as the story plot, cast, and release date remain to be under wraps.
Decades after the original manga series was released, Rurouni Kenshin is still a force to be reckoned with. The anime series was also dubbed in Filipino and played on local television channels, which is why a lot of 90’s babies are familiar with the source materials.

Welcome to the Meiji Era. Japan is a land experiencing times of troubled peace and renewal after a long and bloody civil war.

Aside from the popular anime series, there are five live-action films about the story. All five live-action films starred Takeru Satoh as Himura Kenshin, Emi Takei as Kaoru Kamiya, Yû Aoi as Megumi, Yosuke Eguchi as Hajime Saito, and Munetaka Aoki as Sanosuke Sagara. All of which are available to stream on Netflix. Meanwhile, you can stream the popular anime series on HBO Max, Crunchyroll, Funimation, and Hulu.
