Why Game Developer Studio Enero Went On Hiatus In 2020

Have you ever wondered why Balete City still isn’t available on the market yet? Here’s the answer.

Studio Enero is the core team behind the Philippine mythology-based game Balete City. They’ve been working on it since 2019.

Development on it has slowed of late and those waiting for this unique RPG want to know why.

Studio Enero’s Doddie Householder and Niley Bacolcol are ready to explain what happened. In an exclusive interview, they opened up about the hiatus, which began in early 2020.

“The pandemic made everything we needed inaccessible to us, so we postponed the launch. We actually want to release it,” said Doddie. Also known as “Diwata,” she serves as Studio Enero’s Marketing Director.

But now that things are settling down a bit, Studio Enero is back on track. The Balete City team can’t wait to release new content and updates to the public.

So what now, Studio Enero?

First, they’re attending Content Tokyo later this year. It’s an event where content creators of all stripes gather to show off their projects. They’re also joining other conventions and exhibitions to gain support and raise funds.

“We’re waiting for funds to roll in because that’s what we need for faster development. We had support, but that was put on hold because of the pandemic,” said Niley, Studio Enero’s President and CEO.

But even in this pause during their hiatus, they focused on the worldbuilding aspect of the game. They’re working to get closer to their goal: to bring light to pre-colonial Philippine culture and mythology.
