Singer Gerald Santos Commemorates 600th “Miss Saigon” Show

Gerald Santos just made Filipinos proud!

Pop balladeer Gerald Santos has recently reached a feat in his musical career as part of “Miss Saigon” in the UK and Denmark.

The Filipino performer has now performed a whopping total of 600 shows as Thuy in the acclaimed show. As of April 13, 2023, Santos has already completed 553 shows during the UK International Tour and 47 and counting in Copenhagen.

The former Kapuso star was part of the thousands of hopefuls who came out to audition last March 15 to 21, 2016 when Cameron Mackintosh and Claude-Michel Schonberg held open auditions in Manila.

He has waxed nostalgic on Instagram in recalling how far he has come last April 14, 2023.

“I never thought in my life and career that i’ll be part of an International Show this huge. Starting out as a Pop Artist in the Philippines and to be doing one of the biggest and most popular musicals in the world, is such an honor,” he starts.

Aside from being part of the legendary musical, Gerald is especially grateful that it has allowed him to travel all over the world while doing something that he loves.

While uncertain if he would be given the same once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of something like “Miss Saigon” Denmark, especially as it wraps up this May 2023, Gerald said that he would gladly do it again in a heartbeat.

“Doing it in another language is definitely one for the books for me and if I had to do it again in another language I would do it coz I should say it’s both a challenge and fun,” he explains.

Gerald Santos’ personal growth

Apart from honing his singing skills, Gerald also underscored that the entire experience has paved the way for him to grow as an individual.

“The perks of living abroad, growing as a person and performer, getting to know different cultures from different people all over the world keeps this show still fresh for me even though i’ve done this so many times. That’s the amazing priceless part of this journey,” Gerald says.

Gerald previously starred in Gantimpala Theater Foundation’s production of “Sino Ka Ba, Jose Rizal” as Dr. Jose P. Rizal as well as Redlife Entertainment Productions Inc.’s “San Pedro Calungsod” as San Pedro Calungsod (he was also the show’s composer). His last project in the country was that of a college student  in Joel Lamangan’s film, “Oras de Peligro.”
