Glaiza De Castro On Resuming “The Seed Of Love” Taping After Pandemic: “Ibang Hirap Yung Pinagdaanan Namin”

Glaiza de Castro really hoped that “The Seed of Love” will push through despite being shelved for three years

GMA-7 actress Glaiza de Castro is ecstatic that her afternoon series, “The Seed of Love,” is finally airing after being shelved for almost three years.

Taping started for the series in February 2020 but was halted because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the show involves kids, the show had to be shelved as minors were not allowed to work at the time.

When restrictions finally eased in 2022, GMA-7 decided to finally push through with the project, still with de Castro, Mike Tan, and Valerie Concepcion in the main cast.

On Monday, May 8, “The Seed of Love” finally aired on the Kapuso network’s GMA Afternoon Prime block.

During the recent media conference for “The Seed of Love,” de Castro looks back at the time they were starting the taping for the series in Benguet.

She also gives honor to the cast and crew of the show for pushing through the show despite the many delays and problems it encountered during the height of the pandemic.

She says, “Gusto ko lang i-commend yung mga tao behind this show. Ngayon pa lang, sobrang pinapalakpakan ko na kayo, congratulations sa atin.

Hindi ganun kadali, ibang hirap din yung pinagdaanan namin kasi we started this show, February of 2020. So, during that time, wala pa tayong kaalam-alam kung ano yung COVID, pinag-uusapan lang natin sa Twitter [na] si Tom Hanks, nagkaroon ng COVID, ganyan, and then, the pandemic happened noong March.

“So, we stopped taping pero noong time na yun, natapos na namin yung mga Banawe scenes, nakita niyo naman sa trailer.”

It came to a point when they already moved on and started doing other projects. De Castro and Tan, together with their director Ricky Davao, already did “Nagbabagang Luha” during the pandemic.

So, para ma-put to waste yun, nakakapanghinayang, di ba? And siyempre, nag-effort lahat bumyahe sa Ifugao, sa Banawe na 11 hours yung byahe.

“So, para sa akin, sobrang fulfilling to see this music video, yung OBB namin. Talagang nakaka-proud lahat ng taong involved dito and I’m proud of myself na natapos namin ito, di ba, na isa na naman pong show sa GMA ang maipapalabas.

“We’re very very excited to show this to people, ibang klase pong hardwork yung ginawa namin dito.

Masasabi ko na dito, ang panglaban namin dito, fighting spirit, courage, and perseverance kasi kahit na nangyari na yung COVID, nagka-lockdown, talagang tinapos pa rin namin yung show and doon pa lang, successful na yung show.”

Crafting her character

“The Seed of Love” follows the story of Eileen (Glaiza de Castro) and Bobby (Mike Tan) whose relationship is tested after Bobby had a cancer scare. He then decides to have his sperm frozen to be able to build a family.

Bobby and Eileen agree to have their child via in-vitro fertilization using his preserved sperm cell.

However, Bobby’s ex-girlfriend, Alexa (Valerie Concepcion) will do everything to destroy the couple and win her ex-boyfriend back. One day, Alexa steals the embryo of Eileen and Bobby. She does this in connivance with Peter (Boy 2 Quizon), her obsessed and hopeless romantic lover.

Peter then implants the stolen embryo in Alexa’s uterus and replaces Eileen’s with a random embryo. Alexa eventually convinces Bobby that he impregnated her after a recent one-night stand.

Admittedly, Glaiza de Castro had a hard time crafting her character when they resumed taping for the teleserye.

The Sparkle artist says with a smile, “Oo, nahirapan ako kaya noong tinanong ako kung paano ko binuo yung character, binubuo ko nga siya during taping.

“So, habang ginagawa namin ito, sinusubukan kong buuin ulit si Eileen.”

It was a good thing that the show’s directors, Ricky Davao, Carlo Cannu, and Ralfh Malabunga, helped her craft the journey of Eileen.

Unti-unti ko siyang nabubuo and gusto ko rin i-commend yung mga co-actors ko na napakahusay and talagang 100% yung ibinibigay kada scene.

Maikli man yung scene, mahaba man, six pages man yung eksena namin, talagang nakakatuwa dahil sa tulong nila nabuo rin si Eileen, hindi lang yung embryo!”
