Good news, movie buffs! PPP4 just extended its festival run to 44 days

If you love watching films, particularly acclaimed local ones, then you’re probably already gearing up for the fourth year of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP). While no one can go to the theaters yet because of the ongoing pandemic, this year, PPP will be held online.

Movie buffs everywhere are loving the excellent deal of being able to watch multiple titles with one pass and not having to miss any screening just because of quarantine. And now, to make things even better, PPP is extending its festival run from 16 days to 44 days! This means you’ll be able to catch different titles until December 13.

21 New Titles

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) made this decision in response to the clamor for a longer film festival, but a part of the schedule change was also to accommodate the inclusion of more movies. With 21 new titles added to the lineup, this year’s PPP will now have a total of 170 titles.

What Will the Extended Run Mean for Viewers?

The new duration of PPP gives subscribers more opportunities to watch the films they want to see. Viewers will be able to watch the short films via video-on-demand (VOD) for the entire festival run (October 31 to December 13), so there is more time to attend the scheduled virtual screenings of the feature-length films from (November 20 to December 31.)

The titles available for VOD streaming include 80 short films and one full-length feature, which is the restored version of Anak Dalita by Lamberto V. Avellana. Meanwhile, the scheduled virtual streaming will include the rest of the feature-length films, which will have a maximum of six screenings each.

Other Events

An extended run also allows for more events that will help recreate the festival feel despite PPP being virtual and will promote the local film industry.

“Aside from announcing the PPP4’s extended duration, we are also pushing forth the ‘Sama All’ spirit by offering a wide array of events to further promote Philippine Cinema, encourage more viewers to learn about the art of filmmaking, and boost the thriving PPP community,” said FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño.

The free events will include talkback sessions with featured shorts, a PPP panel discussion (Bringing Regional Stories to the Big Screen and the Preservation of our Cinematic Heritage), CineMarya Specials, and the CineMarya awarding ceremony.

You can check out FDCP’s website for more information on both the free and exclusive events.
