HBO Renews “The Last Of Us” For Another Season

We’re going to see more of Ellie and Joel

HBO has announced that it will renew “The Last of Us” for a second season. The decision follows the good reception of the show’s debut with 22 million viewers. The game-based series became a hot topic on social media.

Following the announcement, executive producer and Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann has confirmed in a tweet that the second season will follow “The Last of Us: Part 2” game. The show’s first season was based on the original “The Last of Us” game (later rebranded as Part 1).

“The Last Of Us” lead Bella Ramsey back then said that a renewal is “likely if viewership remains high.”

“I’m humbled, honored, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey. The collaboration with Craig Mazin, our incredible cast & crew, and HBO exceeded my expectations,” Neil Druckmann, game director and executive producer of the show, says. “Now, we have the absolute pleasure of being able to do it again with season two! On behalf of everyone at Naughty Dog & PlayStation, thank you!”

The HBO series takes place 20 years after modern civilization’s destruction. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of a quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey. The two characters must traverse the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

The first season has a total of nine episodes. It airs only on HBO and HBO Max. New episodes come out every Wednesday at 6 PM (PT).
