The Ultimate Teen Heartthrob sounds off on his new Hollywood project.
Inigo Pascual recently performed at the LA Screenings. Held at Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, California, it’s the biggest TV sales event of the year in the US.
Inigo attended the event in honor of FOX’s Monarch. He covered “This One’s For The Girls” by Martina McBride. It’s one of the songs he’s set to perform on the show. A studio recording of Inigo’s version will be on the soundtrack. It will drop around the same time as the pilot.
Monarch is a multigenerational drama
Critics and fans alike describe it as a “humongous, multigenerational musical.” The show is about America’s first family of country music, the Romans. Inigo stars alongside big names like Beth Ditto, Susan Sarandon, and Trace Adkins.
Inigo plays 18-year-old Ace Grayson from the Philippines. Ace is the adopted son of Anna Friel’s character Nicky Roman. Being part of the Roman family presents its own challenges. Ace wants to get into country music like the rest of his family, but he has to forge his own path.
Susan Sarandon is set to play the Roman family matriarch. Early reports say her character Dottie Cantrell Roman is “tough and talented.” Hitmaker Trace Adkins plays Albie, her husband, and the reigning King of Country Music.
Monarch will feature plenty of original music. The first song from the soundtrack dropped in December 2021.
FOX’s original plan was for the show to premiere in January 2022. But COVID-19 and a showrunner change forced management to move it to the fall.
According to FOX’s Michael Thorn, the decision to move it wasn’t made lightly. The network brass is happy with the show, but they wanted the team to have time to fine-tune it before it airs.
“The first couple of episodes are very strong. We wanted to give the show the longest runway possible for the launch. When we do air it, it will have all the benefits of a proper campaign. Monarch deserves an uninterrupted airing schedule and proper support. It’s born out of setting the show up for success, and we’re excited about it,” Thorn says.
More on Inigo Pascual
Inigo auditioned for the role in July last year. He sent the crew reels of him doing scenes from the show. He also filmed himself singing Chris Stapleton’s “Tennessee Whiskey.” His performance earned him a callback, and a week later he was flying to Atlanta, Georgia, to start filming.
On working with Susan Sarandon, Inigo had this to say: “She’s such a kind person. On my birthday, we had a good chat about life, about having this opportunity at my age. I spoke to her about my dad. Her kids are also into acting so we were able to find common ground.”
He knows his casting is a milestone for Asian representation in Hollywood. “The news broke the day after my birthday last year. It was the best gift and I’m excited for people to see what we’re working on. I’m excited to be here. This is a crazy opportunity that I didn’t expect.”
