Jake Zyrus’ mother, Raquel Pempengco, praised SB19’s Stell for his “All By Myself” performance. However, she claimed that while it is good, it still did not measure up to Jake’s rendition when he was still known as Charice Pempengco.
Jake is previously known as Charice before he transitioned into a transman. He has long gotten rid of his birth name which he now considers a deadname.
Before transitioning as Jake, Charice was known as an international diva and a vocal powerhouse. Just some of the memorable performances she had are Celine Dion’s “To Love You More” and “All By Myself” which she also performed with David Foster.
As this is the case, Stell’s performance of “All By Myself” during the “Hitman: David Foster and Friends” tour at the Araneta Coliseum may have reminded Raquel of Charice—prompting her to air her sentiments on the viral performance.
In a Facebook post, Raquel deemed that Charice’s performance remains the supreme version—saying Jake has to bring back his old self and surprise the fans.
She writes (published as is), “Gulatin mo din mga tao…mag CHARICE PEMPENGCO ka ulit…hahahha joke lang…Pero infairness magaling si Stell Ajero…Mala Jed Madela din…but still dont compare with CHARICE. Oops just saying lang ha..its my own opinion…Dadami n nman basher ko…Peace Yow!”
The following day, Raquel shared yet another post about the issue—this time saying that she finally caught the attention of her bashers.
The caption reads, “Oh em gee!!! Viral n nman ako…Nsa ABS CBN News, PEP, Manila Bulletin at Scoop agad ang lola nio…Sabi ko na nga ba dadami pa basher ko…Masama bang maglabas ng opinyon at memories ko…My Gudness. Raquel lang sakalam.”
Attached to the post is a photo of herself along with the screenshots of the headlines from different entertainment news outlets.
Raquel seemed to have been on a roll as she published another Facebook post about Stell. As for the post, she claims to have been a fan of “Gento” —SB19’s hit song—since its release.
With her admiration for Stell and his capability to hit the money note, she says that her reaction was mostly surprised rather than something else. As she puts it, “No comparison for both of them, [they’re] both amazing in their own genre.”

Jake has recently slammed a basher claiming that Charice’s voice is “sayang” in comparison with Ice Seguerra who still maintained his voice despite undergoing the same transition. This then prompted him to lecture the netizen about going through hormone therapy.
The netizen writes, “Sayang boses mo Charice. Bakit si Ice Seguera trans man pero never binago ang boses. Sayang talaga.”
Charice replies with, “First of all, with respect to my past, keep my deadname out of your silly mouth. And darling, it’s because he hasn’t taken any hormone therapy.
“It’s a HUGE part of being a transman. Maybe there are more important reasons why he hasn’t taken hormone therapy. I am not going to explain the rest because based on your comment you sound ignorant.
“I’m going to pin your comment because it seems like you love being the center of attention. So let’s give it you sweetheart. Have a nice day.”
Jake first came out as a lesbian in 2013 via an interview with ABS-CBN’s now-defunct showbiz-oriented program “The Buzz.” In 2017, he dropped his birth name to go as Jake Zyrus.
