It’s not the first time Jamie Lee Curtis hinted at a sequel for the Disney classic
Jamie shared the joyful moment on her Instagram on November 10, posting a selfie with Lindsay.
The caption reads, “Too late. YOU GREW UP and SO BEAUTIFULLY. Well, it’s Friday, and the strike is over so hopefully, we can switch places again in the near future!”
“Freaky Friday,” released by Disney in 2003, tells the story of the complicated relationship between single mother Tess Coleman (Jamie) and her teenage daughter Anna (Lindsay).
After a visit to a Chinese restaurant and receiving mysterious fortunes, the two magically swapped bodies. The film follows their comedic struggle to navigate each other’s lives until they find a way to reverse the enchantment.
The speculation about a sequel emerged when Jamie hinted at the possibility during an interview with The View.
She proposed the idea, saying, “Let me be the grandma, let me be the old grandma who switches places, so then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma who’s still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon.”
Jamie also told Variety in a February 2023 interview that “Freaky Friday” is close to getting its sequel.
“I’m 64 in a week, and Lindsay is 36… A sequel lends itself so beautifully. We’re both committed to it, and it’s not ours to make. It’s Disney’s to make, and I think they’re interested, and we’re talking,” the actress explained.
Lindsay later confirmed the discussions during an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s show, revealing, “Jamie Lee Curtis writes you, and you just get excited and distracted immediately, so I had to bring myself back down to earth. And then she said, Freaky Friday 2, and I got more excited.”
