The latest reboot of Mars Ravelo’s “Darna” has seen many delays.

First, Erik Matti, who was originally asked to direct the film, bowed out of the project due to creative differences. Then, Liza Soberano, who replaced Angel Locsin to play the super-heroine, was scratched off due to a finger injury, so ABS-CBN had to hold prolonged auditions to find a new Darna.

In July 2019, they finally chose 21-year-old Jane De Leon to fill Darna’s boots. However, when they teased that they had started taping last January, the pandemic put it off once more.

After announcing that they have given up on the project last August, ABS-CBN has been reported to have let Darna take flight once again. However, it won’t be proceeding as a feature film as planned prior, but would instead be shot as a teleserye set to air in 2021, entertainment sources say.

They decided on these changes since TV productions are much easier to pull off amidst the pandemic compared to those of full-length films.

As to who will take the directorial helm is yet to be known, as director Jerrold Tarog signed the deal on the provision that he was going to lead a movie. Nonetheless, ABS-CBN is planning to air the forthcoming Darna teleserye on iWant TFC, A2Z, and Kapamilya Channels.

Certainly, some specifics will have to wait to be publicized. We’re just glad that the project hasn’t been totally scrapped, and the people behind them didn’t yield to the pandemic.
