“Parang hindi na ako marunong pagbalik ko. Para akong natatanga,” admits Jennylyn
Jennylyn Mercado admits that her TV comeback is challenging.
The Kapuso actress—dubbed by the network as its “Ultimate Star”—marks her acting comeback via the primetime series “Love. Die. Repeat.” with Xian Lim.
In 2021, Jennylyn was in the middle of taping the show when she had to be rushed to the hospital. Turns out, she was pregnant with her child with Dennis Trillo.
Because of this, Jennylyn had to rest and tapings for “Love. Die. Repeat.” had to be postponed until she gave birth in 2022.
In late 2023, tapings for the show finally resumed.
However, Jennylyn admits that adjusting to the usual routine on set was not a walk in the park for her.
The project is helmed by directors Irene Emma Villamor and Jerry Lopez Sineneng, but it was Direk Jerry who directed most of her scenes when she returned to the set.
What adds to the challenge is that most of Jennylyn’s scenes are heavy and involve a lot of crying.
“Wala akong eksenang masaya. Lahat umiiyak lang. Napaka-challenging for me.
FreebieMNL and other reporters spoke to Jennylyn during the press conference of “Love. Die. Repeat.” on Monday, January 8, at Luxent Hotel, Quezon City.
The show aired its pilot episode yesterday, January 15, on GMA Prime.
Xian Lim’s support of Jennylyn Mercado
If there is one actor who supported Jennylyn the most when she returned to the set, it was her partner Xian. This was after they were able to break the ice and build camaraderie on set.
“Siyempre, there’s a lot of unpredictable things happening on the set, mga two years na, after pandemic, huminto kami ‘tapos bumalik ‘tapos sometimes yung mga damit na suot namin, lalo na ako, di na kasya, so gugupitin!
“Doon po, parang doon siya nagsisimula na nagtatawanan na lang kami and the ice, slowly, nabe-break po siya.”
Amid the support she received, Jennylyn admits there is still pressure that comes with the airing of “Love. Die. Repeat.”
She says, “Yung pressure kasi siyempre, GMA Prime, yung susundan namin na show, siyempre, kailangan namin ma-reach din yung level.
“So, medyo may pressure talaga kaya pinagdadasal ko na sana talaga suportahan, kapitan ng mga tao itong show na ito kasi pinaghirapan talaga namin.”
