The “John Wick” franchise has grossed over $587 million worldwide, with three movies in the series. With its last installment currently breaking records, fans of the franchise are left wanting more. Luckily, they’ll have something new to look forward to—a “John Wick” spin-off film titled “Ballerina.”
The movie is currently in development. It will focus on a young female assassin seeking revenge against those who killed her family. Fans were immediately intrigued by the character first introduced in “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.”
The same team behind the “John Wick” franchise is producing “Ballerina.”
Len Wiseman, best known for his work on the “Underworld” franchise, will be the director of the spin-off. It is his first time directing a “John Wick” movie, but his credentials include directing action-packed films like “Total Recall” and “Live Free Or Die Hard.”
Ana de Armas, who captivated audiences with her performances in movies such as “Knives Out” and “Blonde,” will play the main character in the movie.
In the “Ballerina,” de Armas will be playing a character who is as tough and resourceful as John Wick himself. Catalina Sandino Moreno and Gabriel Byrne will also be in the film. Fans of the original “John Wick” films will also be pleased that Ian McShane will reprise his “John Wick 4” role as Winston.
The upcoming film will explore the world of assassins in even greater depth. Ana de Armas’s character will be a vital part of this exploration.
The release date for “Ballerina” is yet to be announced. But Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake says the film is expected to release in either spring or summer of 2024.
