GMA-7 releases statement on Tito, Vic, and Joey’s announcement on “Eat Bulaga!”

The whole Filipino TV industry is shocked with the announcement that “Eat Bulaga!” icons Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon are saying goodbye to the show’s producer, TAPE Inc.

Not only did they leave their loyal Dabarkads surprised with the announcement, celebrities and TV personalities also aired their shock and sadness with this recent development.

Celebrities reaction on TVJ farewell

Based on the comments on Ciara Sotto’s Instagram post about the farewell today, May 31, 2023, a lot of industry friends and celebrities reaction on TVJ farewell were mostly sad.

Ciara writes in her post, “I’m sharing this here because this was not allowed to go live on air on your television sets. We may all feel like it’s the end of an era, but we hold on to God’s promise that ‘God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.’ Romans 8:28.

Former Sexbomb Dancer Jopay Paguia, who was part of “Eat Bulaga!” for a long time, reacts with a heartbreak and crying emoji.

Other celebrities who expressed their sadness over what happened are Shaina Magdayao, Danica Sotto-Pingris, Ruffa Gutierrez, Mikee Cojuangco, Pops Fernandez, Sunshine Cruz, Marissa Delgado, Suzi Entrata, Almira Muhlach, and Michael Flores.

GMA Statement on “Eat Bulaga!”

GMA-7, the home network of “Eat Bulaga,” releases its statement following Tito, Vic, and Joey’s farewell to TAPE Inc.

In the statement sent to media, GMA-7 expresses its sadness over the turn of events on “Eat Bulaga!” The network has also emphasized that TAPE Inc. still has an existing blocktimer contract with them until end of 2024.

The statement reads: “We are saddened by today’s unexpected turn of events with regard to Eat Bulaga. GMA has been the home of Eat Bulaga for many years and we still have a block time agreement with TAPE until the end of 2024 for the noontime slot. Together with all the Filipino fans, we pray for a smooth and swift resolution of their issues.

“Maraming salamat sa patuloy na suporta, mga Kapuso.”

“Eat Bulaga!” controversy

Tito, Vic, and Joey have been hosting “Eat Bulaga!” since it started 43 years ago.

Issues about the change of management started when reports came out about TAPE Inc.’s plans to rebrand the show.

TAPE Inc. Chief Finance Officer Bullet Jalosjos then spoke to “Fast Talk With Boy Abunda” to address controversies, including the rebranding plan, change of hosts, and even “Eat Bulaga!” transferring to another network.

This seemed to have fueled the fire as Tito Sotto spoke to the media about TVJ’s side on the issue, saying that the new management of “Eat Bulaga!” wanted to implement cost-cutting measures and other financial issues.

Even then, “Eat Bulaga!” remained on air without any changes until TVJ’s big announcement on May 31, with them saying goodbye to TAPE Inc.

It has been unclear, however, if “Eat Bulaga!” will remain on air in the succeeding days and what will happen on the show.
