Kazel Kinouchi on losing another show: Although successful din yung show na yun, mas successful talaga yung show na ito.”
It takes one audition to get a breakthrough role. But sometimes, not passing the auditions can lead you to a better opportunity. This is the case of Kazel Kinouchi, the main kontrabida in the afternoon series “Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap.”
In a recent Zoom press conference, Kinouchi reveals to FreebieMNL and other media reporters that she auditioned for a different show before “Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap.”
She recalls, “Kasi, I auditioned for a role before this show and hindi ako nakuha doon. Although successful din yung show na yun, mas successful talaga yung show na ito.”
Kinouchi is “super super grateful” that she got the role of Zoey and is able to work with her co-stars in the Kapuso afternoon show.
“Dito talaga ako inilagay ni God at saka sobrang galing kasi lahat ng mga katrabaho ko, ang babait nila, ang sasarap nilang katrabaho. Inisip ko, siguro kung hindi sila yung katrabaho ko, baka mahirapan ako sa work ko. Pero yun, I’m so thankful and blessed talaga na nakuha ko ito, nandito ako ngayon.”
Among her co-stars are Jillian Ward, Carmina Villarroel, Pinky Amador, Dominic Ochoa, Richard Yap, Jeff Moses, and Andre Paras.

Handling the bashers
Since Kazel Kinouchi is playing a kontrabida role, it is inevitable for her to have haters because of the character.
Kinouchu admits that she, indeed, receives hate comments on social media. But she has learned to handle this well. She narrates, “I really don’t read comments kasi, wala lang. It’s just for my own peace of mind pero meron pa rin kasing nagme-message sa akin.”
However, just right before the Zoom press conference, she had an unforgettable encounter with a basher. She shares, “Merong nag-message sa akin yesterday, parang ang dami niyang sinabi. Pero nakakatawa, after that, na-realize niya. After a few minutes, she messaged, ‘Sorry sa mga nasabi ko, nadala lang talaga ako sa character mo.’”
In the end, the comments allow her to affirm that she is an effective villain. She says, “Lagi ko iniisip na if they hate me, maybe I’m doing a good job. I’m portraying my character well. Kasi kontrabida naman talaga ako, so, dapat i-hate din nila talaga ako. Hindi naman po, hindi ako masyadong nagpapaapekto. Alam kong hate lang nila si Zoey but not Kazel.”
How is she securing her mental health amid all the bashing? She answers, “Daily ako nagpe-pray and I read the bible, I also meditate if I have time. Kahapon, nasa standby kami, nagme-meditate kami sa standby area noong isa kong kasama, stress and anxiety meditation.”
Kazel Kinouchi’s transfer to GMA
“Abot-Kamay Na Pangarap” is Kazel Kinouchi’s first show with GMA-7. Prior to this, she was a talent of ABS-CBN’s Star Maic. Kinouchi started her career in 2010 as a housemate in “Pinoy Big Brother” with James Reid as her batchmate.
She was then able to do several roles on television like “Good Vibes,” “Oh My G!,” “Pasion de Amor,” and “A Love To Last.”
According to Kinouchi, it was Sparkle consultant and former Star Magic head Johnny “Mr. M” Manahan who paved the way for her to join the Kapuso talent management arm.
“Actually, kasi I used to do commercials before, I’m very active talaga with TVCs. And then, one of my agents sent a copy to GMA, yung VTR ko, tapos nakita siya ni Mr. M and he recognized me kasi nga, di ba, galing siya sa kabila. Sabi niya, ‘Oh, si Kazel to ha. Let her audition. So, tuluy-tuloy na and I decided last year lang that I joined Sparkle.”
