L.A. Santos recalls what he learned from Maricel Soriano
Newcomer L.A. Santos is “pressured” yet “grateful” to headline his first movie, “In His Mother’s Eyes.”
Aside from doing the lead role, he shared scenes with two veteran actors in the Philippines: Roderick Paulate and Diamond Star Maricel Soriano.
“Kaya buong puso at taos-puso akong nagpapasalamat talaga kasi sobrang big blessing.”
FreebieMNL spoke to L.A. during the media conference of “In His Mother’s Eyes” on November 16 at Oriental Garden Palace, Quezon City.
Working with Maricel and Roderick
L.A. enjoyed his time working with Maricel and Roderick on the set of “In His Mother’s Eyes.”
What are the unforgettable moments he shared with the two of them?
L.A. says with a smile, “Madami po, siyempre yung pag-aasaran nilang dalawa, yun ang ‘di ko makakalimutan!”
But what L.A. is glad about working with Maricel, who plays his mom in the film, is that she was able to share her expertise in the long years she has spent in the industry.
“Tinuro naman po niya sa akin is maging totoo and sundan yung puso ko, which up to this day, ginagamit ko po talaga.”
L.A. also had cute and fun moments with Roderick.
Directed by FM Reyes, “In His Mother’s Eyes” is now entering its second week in cinemas.
Portraying a challenging character
Playing his role as Tim was a challenge for L.A. as it is not just a simple character but a teenager with Asperger’s Syndrome.
Asperger’s Syndrome, according to Nationwide Children’s Hospital website, is a form of Autism Spectrum Disorder where they have a difficult time relating to others socially but can perform well in school or work.
Aside from the challenge, L.A. knows he holds a big responsibility in portraying the character that’s why he really did his best to become effective.
L.A. says of his role, “Tim is a high-functioning na special child po. Yung condition niya is Asperger’s po.
He had to make sure he did enough research not only by reading on the internet but undergoing an immersion by interacting with children with the same condition, which he did all by himself.
“Yung research, so much lang din yung makukuha mo doon, e.
In the end, L.A. hopes that the message he wants to share through the film will get to the audience.
