Lady Gaga to Release 10th Anniversary Edition of “Born this Way” Album

Little Monsters are getting the most out of Born This Way’s tenth year as Lady Gaga just announced on Twitter that she’ll be releasing a special edition of the album to commemorate the milestone.

Born This Way The Tenth Anniversary won’t just be the same album in new packaging. In the same thread, Gaga said that in addition to the original tracks we’ve heard before, the 10th-anniversary edition will also include “reimagined versions of #BornThisWay songs by incredible artists who both represent and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community.”

The inclusion of LGBTQ+ members and advocates and the fact that Gaga is releasing the special edition during pride month rather than the album’s exact anniversary (which is May 23) is no surprise. Born This Way is probably one of the most iconic pop albums of the 2010s, and it isn’t just because it was full of hits.

This album left a huge positive impact on the LGBTQ+ community when it was released back in 2011. This is especially true for the single of the same name that sent a message no other radio hit was explicitly sending: being part of the LGBTQ+ is more than okay and something to celebrate.

The fact that it wasn’t just a song with a vague inspiring message is one of the things that made it into the LGBTQ+ anthem it is today. Gaga made sure to specify the different queer identities she’s uplifting in the song (“No matter gay, straight, or bi/ Lesbian, transgendered life, /I’m on the right track baby, /I was born to survive”) and even gave a shout out to drag queens (“Don’t be a drag, just be a queen.”

This track may have gotten her backlash from conservative crowds, but it definitely did more good than bad in the long run as it made millions of members of the LGBTQ+ community around the world feel seen and heard.

Now, 10 years later, the influence of this album is still felt. In fact, just last week, West Hollywood gave Lady Gaga a key to the city and presented her with a Born this Way mural in rainbow colors to celebrate the anniversary and thank her for her impact on the LGBTQ+ community.

Gaga is dropping Born This Way The Tenth Anniversary on June 18, 2020. However, you can listen to the reimagined version of one of the album’s singles, Judas, by Big Freedia now.
