Marco Gumabao says he is “sobrang click” with Cristine Reyes
Is there something going on between VIVA talents Marco Gumabao and Cristine Reyes?
Recently, a sighting of them working out together went viral on social media. Netizens were quick to assume that romance is brewing between Gumabao and Reyes.
After the press conference proper of “Baby Boy, Baby Girl” on March 7, 2023, FreebieMNL and other reporters caught up with Gumabao and asked about the real score between them.
Smiling, Gumabao first answers, “Well…tanungin niyo po siya. Wow, pumiyok!”
He then explains, ”Ah basta, kami ni Cristine, we’ve worked together since 2015. First teleserye ko was ‘Tubig at Langis’ and kasama ko siya doon, and I can say that we have formed a good relationship. It was a solid friendship throughout the years and ayun. Recently, we’ve been very very close, we’ve been working out together and hanging out a lot. Yun lang naman yung gusto ko sabihin.”
When asked about the two of them hanging out, Gumabao asks back while laughing, “Masama bang makipag-hang out? Hindi, joke lang!”
He then follows it up with good words for Reyes: “Cristine is a very wonderful person. Sobrang click kami in terms of mga trip namin sa buhay, ugali namin, very [complementary of] each other.”
Finally, a reporter asked if their relationship has a label. Smiling, Gumabao only says, “Ha? Ano yun?” And then adds: “Basta, malalaman niyo naman kapag ano…”
But if there’s a possibility that their “very very close relationship” would lead to something deeper, Gumabao only says, “Well, nasa sa kanya yun. Hindi, joke lang! Haha!”
Gumabao is the lead actor of “Baby Boy, Baby Girl,” where he is paired with Kylie Verzosa. The film produced by VIVA Films opens in cinemas on March 22, 2023.

Marco Gumabao on keeping his love life private
Prior to the interview following the press conference, Gumabao was asked during the Q&A about keeping his relationships private and not posting on social media.
Gumabao believes that this is something he is required to do.
He says, “Yung pagpo-post regarding my love life, ako po, I’m an actor. Hindi naman po ako nasa love team para i-share lahat ng nangyayari sa personal life ko. So, ako, as much as possible, I’d like to keep it on a down low, I like keeping it private. Kapag lumabas, e di lumabas. Pero kapag hindi siya lumalabas, hindi naman ako yung magsasalita para lang [pag-usapan].”
Gumabao prefers to keep his love life private, seeing the trend where couples who are active on social media end up in bad breakups.
He continues, “Kasi ayoko po yung parang sa social media, we see this a lot nowadays, ano. For example, like a couple, super happy on social media but after like a few months or a few years, sila yung mababalitaan mo na may cheating involved, na may ibang taong involved. So, ako po kasi, you don’t have to show to people what’s happening behind doors. Kumbaga, if you’re happy, you can be happy without posting it. You can be happy without bragging [about] it on social media.”
But the VIVA actor says that not posting anyone on social media does not mean he’s not dating anyone.
He explains, “I think yun po yung naging problem natin with social media nowadays na kung walang pinu-post, they’re not dating anyone, na wala silang minamahal, hindi sila minamahal. Ako, para sa akin lang is as long as you know for yourself na you love a person and genuine yung pagmamahal niyong dalawa sa isa’t isa and you don’t need to prove it to other people by posting it on social media, I think that’s worth it. As long as the both of you understand each other na hindi based on social media or hindi tumatakbo yung relationship. I think it’s also peaceful and, at the same time, masaya rin po kapag minsan, tahimik din ang love life.”
When asked for the state of his heart, Gumabao answers with a smile, “Yes, I’m happy.”
