Fans are hoping this doesn’t push through
Marvel Studios is reportedly considering a backup plan to replace actor Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror. The decision follows the news of Jonathan Majors arrest due to assault allegations.
On “The Hot Mic” podcast, Marvel insider Jeff Sneider reveals that Marvel Studios and Majors’ team have been discussing potential options. Sneider says the studios could replace Majors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) due to his assault allegations.
On March 26, Majors was arrested in New York City for allegedly committing domestic abuse against a 30-year-old woman. The actor denied the allegations. His attorney has stated that the accuser has since recanted her initial statement.
Majors debuted as Kang the Conqueror in the season finale of “Loki Season 1” on Disney+. He was also featured in the recently released “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”
Majors was originally planned to play a significant part in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. The villain is set to appear in both “Loki Season 2” and “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.”
Sneider mentions that potential replacements for Majors could include Damson Idris. People know him for his role in FX crime drama Snowfall.
“Even though there hasn’t been any movement on the Jonathan Majors front, I’ve heard that’s the kind of actor, who, like, if Jonathan Majors got the boot as Kang, someone like Damson Idris is the type of person that [Marvel] may look at to replace him if that, in fact, happens,” says Sneider.
Although it’s going to be hard to boot Majors’ character, Marvel just might do it. The studios has a history of recasting several known characters in the MCU.
“Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” will be available on Blu-ray from May 16.
