Director Mikhail Red Announces New Film With Nadine Lustre

Award-winning director Mikhail Red recently puts up his own production house

Director Mikhail Red and actress Nadine Lustre are once again cooking up something big for their audience.

This follows their award-sweeping moment at the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival for the movie “Deleter.”

Red unveiled in a March 3, 2023 feature in Variety magazine that he is currently working on his first two projects this year. This time, his films wouldn’t only be done in partnership with VIVA Films, but also under his newly-minted production company, Evolve Studios.

His first upcoming horror film, “Nokturno,” which centers on a primal curse haunting a family, only has Lustre as its confirmed cast member so far.

Meanwhile, his second project is titled “Helel,” which translates to “shining one” in Hebrew. While its cast remains under wraps, the film’s plot would fall under the science fiction-spiritual horror genre. Set in the near future, “Helel” would feature a “Filipina astronaut who encounters the devil.” The upcoming film is set to premiere in 2024, according to Red.

With the ambition of creating more projects that he can proudly share with an international audience, Red is also spreading his wings and trying on a new plot.

His first e-sport-inspired film titled “Friendly Fire” would be headlined by Coleen Garcia and Loisa Andalio. The film follows a female CEO played by Garcia who wants to boost the stock of Philippine e-Sports on the map. She eventually finds potential and trains a young player portrayed by Andalio.

Fellow filmmaker Paul Soriano is a producer through his Ten17P Studio, which previously produced Red’s 2021 movie “Arisaka.”

“It’s just interesting to follow the lives of these esports athletes who are handicapped in terms of resources, support, and even internet speed and lag,” said the filmmaker.

Red is also working on the live-action series adaptation of “Dreamwalker,” starring Kate Valdez, with the help of “Respeto” director Treb Monteras II as showrunner and Los Angeles-based writer Kaitlyn Fae Fajilan penning the script.
