Video game fanatics should be checking their bank accounts right about now, as Sony finally revealed this week the launch price as well as the release date of the much-anticipated PlayStation 5, plus a few other cool revelations.

In a showcase event on September 16, Sony announced that the new PlayStation 5 would retail at $499.99 (around PhP24,000), and the Digital Edition at $399.99 (around PhP19,000). What a difference the Ultra-HD Blu-Ray disc drive makes.

But that’s just for the console, though. During the event, Sony relayed a separate price tag for the accompanying accessory, the DualSense controller, which will go for $70 (around PhP3,000). Meanwhile, PS5 games will probably set you back by more or less the same, up to $70 apiece.

In the US, pre-orders have begun today for the PS5’s November 12 launch in the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea. However, we in the Philippines would have to wait a little longer — a week to be exact, as the PS5 is released to the rest of the world on November 19.

While Sony was at it, they also announced a handful of games that would be available on the console by 2021, including the debut of Final Fantasy XVI, which will be playable on both the PS5 and PC.

They also revealed the return of the much-awaited sequel to God of War, which is now believed to be called Ragnarök, as implied at the end of the first game.

Sony also gave audiences a first look at the long-rumored Harry Potter game called Hogwarts Legacy. It features an open-world game set in the fantasy franchise’s universe.

We also got a preview of a few other favorites, including the latest installment of the Resident Evil game, Resident Evil: Village and Capcom’s “special edition” of Devil May Cry 5.

Not enough games? Don’t sweat, as Sony also unveiled the PlayStation Plus Collection as part of its subscription service. Choose from a wide range of timeless PS4 games and play your hearts out to keep yourself busy until the big releases next year.

This week has been an early Christmas preview for gamers, as they were also treated to an announcement by Microsoft regarding the pricing for the newest Xbox Series X and S. The Series X will go for $499 (around PhP24,000), while the sleeker Series S is tagged at $299 (around PhP14,500).
