Amazon’s new epic fantasy series ‘The Wheel of Time’ releases its first trailer

There’s nothing like good ol’ epic fantasy movies and series to help you escape everyday life, right? Well, there’s a new television series you should keep on your radar.

According to PhilStarLife.com, Amazon Prime has unveiled the first trailer for The Wheel of Time television series, an upcoming adaptation of Robert Jordan’s series of high fantasy novels ahead of its November 19 release date.

The teaser trailer sets the stage for the TV series, establishing the main characters in Jordan’s world, with a specific focus on Moiraine Damodred portrayed by Gone Girl’s Rosamund Pike and the sprawling, epic world where only certain women are allowed to wield magic. Here’s the full trailer to get you excited.

In case you’re not familiar with the book, basically, Moiraine is a member of an incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, capable of wielding the One Power to control elements and heal others. The series follows Moiraine as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers where she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

First released in 1990, the novels spanned 15 books in addition to a prequel novel and two companion books. As of 2017, the epic saga sold over 80 million copies all over the world and is considered one of the best-selling epic fantasy series since The Lord of the Rings.

Amazon first announced the project in 2018, but as with most Hollywood projects, production was delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Amazon is setting up The Wheel of Time to be a big-budget fantasy adaptation to follow the footsteps of the massively popular Game of Thrones of HBO.

In addition to The Wheel of Time, Amazon is also working on a new The Lord of the Rings series that is shaping up to be one of the most expensive TV shows ever made, which will debut on Sept. 2, 2022.
