Why Bea Alonzo Begged Off From Movie With Alden Richards

Bea Alonzo says “she has contractual obligations to fulfill”

Actress Bea Alonzo has backed out from the film “Special Memory,” her movie with Alden Richards. Conflicting schedules has said to render her unavailable to pursue the role. The cancellation was made public through one of the episodes of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

A statement released by Alonzo’s management says, “In the spirit of fairness, we deemed it appropriate to advise the producers of ‘Special Memory,’ a movie adaptation of ‘A Moment To Remember,’ that Ms. Bea Alonzo had to respectfully beg off from this movie project due to her full schedule this year.”

More so, the note emphasized that Alonzo still has contractual obligations with GMA Network, which shall remain as her team’s top priority. The sentiment was then echoed by Abunda as he shares, “Ayaw ni Bea na maghintay ang cast because of her and her schedule.”

Now that the decision left the role unfilled, Abunda reinstates that Alonzo has no problem re-casting since “she’s happy, [and] this is more work for more people.”

In line with the decision, significant revamps for the production were made to offset Alonzo’s cancellation. GMA Pictures, VIVA Films, and APT Entertainment released a separate statement informing the public that the new production date, cast, and cinema release date will be announced in “due time.”

In March 2023, Alden Richards told FreebieMNL and other reporters that there are no updates yet if the film will still push through. An unsure Richards says, “As of this moment, parang medyo naging busy lang kami ni B with separate commitments. So, parang wala pa rin kaming update in terms of the movie that we’re about to do. But both of us are still waiting for that—sa go signal na lang.”

When asked about the certainty of the project, Richards admits, “That we don’t know yet po. So, still waiting. Naka-standby po kami and we’ll see kung mag-push through po siya.”

“Special Memory” is the Philippine adaptation of the South Korean film “A Moment To Remember.” The approval of the PH version was first given a nod in 2021, wherein Alonzo is set to play Richards’ lover all while struggling over a rare case of Alzheimer’s disease.
