Delayed Movie Releases We’re Most Excited to Finally See in 2021

The moviegoing experience hasn’t exactly been the same this year. With the pandemic affecting production schedules and our ability to go out to cinemas to catch the most recent blockbuster hits, a lot of films that were supposed to hit the big screens in 2020 got postponed. 

Thankfully, a lot of these releases are finally dropping in 2021, whether through streaming or in cinema for areas where quarantine guidelines have eased. Here are some of the movies we’re most excited to see.

Raya and the Last Dragon

This movie is about the first Southeast Asian Disney princess, so it goes without saying that SE Asians around the world, including us Filipinos, are dying to finally see her in action. Originally slated for a November 2020 release, the premiere was ultimately pushed to March 2021. 

No Time to Die

All James Bond movies are expected to be blockbuster hits – especially this one, which is Daniel Craig’s last Bond movie and will feature the first female agent taking up the 007 title. However, because of the pandemic, the movie had to move its release to 2021.

Following the success of Hamilton, people were excited to see a movie adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s other musical, In the Heights. Musical fans are definitely on the edge of their seats waiting to finally see the movie after a year-long delay.

Another Marvel film that was originally part of the 2020 slate of movie releases is the Venom sequel. The first movie alone was a blockbuster hit, and people are itching to see more from the titular antihero.

Dune

This upcoming sci-fi film that was supposed to premiere last month had people thrilled the moment it was announced. And for good reason too: it’s an adaptation of the acclaimed 1965 novel of the same name that boasts an all-star cast full of names from other big movie franchises movie buffs love. 

West Side Story

The musical’s reboot was supposed to hit theaters this month in time for Christmas, but we unfortunately have to wait till December 2021 to see it now. Whether it’s for the iconic songs, the gripping romance-tragedy, or just the chance to see what spin they’re putting on this classic, it’s definitely one of the movies everyone’s looking forward to.
