When you think of Disney Classics, the first thing that usually comes to mind are films from the Renaissance. This is everything from The Little Mermaid to Tarzan. That’s not to say the 2000s were devoid of noteworthy movies. In fact, here are some that deserve more recognition and are worth rewatching.

The Emperor’s New Groove (2000)

Even adults can appreciate the humor of The Emperor’s New Groove. It doesn’t try too hard to be funny and the characters are very likable. Yzma and Kronk’s antics will never cease to be amusing and it’s a feel-good movie that you can watch for a quick laugh.

Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)

There are mixed reviews about this science-fiction film but it still delivers as an adventure-packed animation. Some of the criticisms it received were the lack of character development and the confusing plot. Nonetheless, following Milo Thatch and his crew go on a quest to discover the lost city of Atlantis will keep you occupied.

Treasure Planet (2002)

Treasure Planet is an underrated film that was based on the 1950s live-action, Treasure Island. The main character adventures through space on a ship that takes him to a legendary planet. Despite not doing well in the Box Office, it got nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Meet the Robinsons (2007)

It’s wacky, yet sentimental with a compelling story of a brilliant young inventor named Lewis. No family is perfect and Meet the Robinsons captures exactly that. If there’s anything to take away from this futuristic animated film, it’s to keep moving forward.

Bolt (2008)

The movie’s success can partly be credited to the voice behind the characters. Bolt, voiced by John Travolta, is a lovable canine who gets lost in the Big Apple. His misadventures lead him to new friendships and the discovery of his real superpower, which makes for a heartfelt and entertaining watch.

Other 2000s Disney Classics that are worth rewatching are Fantasia 2000, Dinosaur, Lilo and Stitch, Brother Bear, Home on the Range, Chicken Little, The Wild, and Princess and the Frog. All the movies listed are part of the Disney Animated Canon, which currently totals 59.
