Dug, the adorable golden retriever from the 2009 Pixar film Up, will have the spotlight — and the squirrels — all to himself in his own spinoff series “Dug Days” set to premiere on Disney Plus.

On Thursday, which also happened to be International Dog Day, the streaming platform released the first trailer for the series. Dubbed as a “Disney Plus original series of shorts,” it brings back the trio of Dug, Russell, and Carl Fredricksen whose paths all cross on their journey to and beyond Paradise Falls. This time, they are joined by Squirrel, Dug’s devious target that distracts him so frequently.

Watch Dug chase squirrels and dig up azaleas in the series trailer below:

Up writer and co-director Bob Peterson returns as the voice of the fluffy canine companion, as well as Edward Asner as Carl Fredricksen. There is no word yet on who will portray the adventurous outdoorsman Russell in the five-episode mini-series.

“Dug is pure of heart–he’s a good soul. I think people enjoy that part of Dug,” Peterson said in a press release. “Plus, people love their dogs. We’ve gone to great lengths to include truth in dog behavior, so they see their own dogs in Dug.”

First announced during Disney’s Investor Day presentation back in December, Dug Days is the latest in Disney’s pipeline of spinoff series which has already churned out the Monsters Inc. offshoot “Monsters at Work this July. Down the road, Disney also revealed during the presentation that Cars spinoff series is also set to hit the road around the latter half of 2022.

Dug Days hits Disney Plus on September 1.
