It looks like the Fast and Furious films still have their magic. As per Philstarlife.com, Universal’s new F9: The Fast Saga not only ruled over the box office in North American theaters recently, it pulverized them with an estimated take of $70 million (P3.4 billion).
With this haul, the ninth installment in the Fast and Furious franchise easily became the biggest money-maker since the COVID-19 pandemic began, even as one in five US theaters and most of those in Canada remain shuttered.
So what is Fast 9 about anyway? According to their website, here’s a synopsis of the film: Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty, and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over the peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most. His crew joins together to stop a world-shattering plot led by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered: a man who happens to be Dom’s forsaken brother, Jakob (John Cena).
Fast 9 stars returning cast members Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel and Sung Kang. Joining them are famous faces, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron and Cardi B.
Two decades since the Fast and Furious films first showed, and they still have the power to captivate the audience. Filipinos are such huge fans of the franchise that they even held a special premiere of the 6th film in the country.
However, since movie theaters are still closed in the country, it seems that it may take a while before Pinoys will get to watch the film in the cinema. Well, it’s something to look forward to, right?
