It looks like the princess of Themyscira is trading in her gilded armor for a more sinister crown. Just before her much-anticipated Netflix action-adventure flick Red Notice premieres, it seems that Israeli actress Gal Gadot has found a new big role.
As per Deadline, the 36-year old actress and former beauty queen is in final negotiations to play the Evil Queen in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White, the one that started it all for the studio’s legendary slate of animated features. Insiders say the live-action film will expand upon the story and music from the original.
Gadot will be put against Rachel Zegler who will play Snow White. The Hollywood newcomer is set to star in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, which will show off her vocal chops. This means fans of the famous fairy tale will get to hear her singing voice before she becomes the Disney princess.
You probably know about the story already but as a refresher, but the timeless story is based on the Brothers Grimm fairytale. The tale follows an orphaned princess living with her Evil Queen stepmother who attempts to poison her after becoming jealous of her beauty. With the help of seven dwarfs, Snow White escapes the queen and eventually lives happily ever after.
In the past decade, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron, and Lily Collins, and Julia Roberts have played the characters in live-action adaptations of the fairytale classic. However, this particular adaptation is produced by Disney itself.
News of a live-action adaptation of Snow White has been buzzing around since 2016. However, the iconic studio took its time on this adaptation is making sure it gets the music right. With that said, it goes without saying that fans can expect a lot from this upcoming movie. Production for the movie is slated to begin in 2022, so it might take a while before we get a glimpse of Gadot as the Evil Queen.
