Yes, as per PhilStarLife.com, Hayley Atwell has been cast to voice the iconic Lara Croft in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of Square Enix’s popular video game franchise. The project was first announced last January. It will pick up after the events of the video game reboot trilogy and will follow Lara Croft’s latest adventure, 25 years after her first game appeared.
Tasha Huo, who also wrote The Witcher: Blood Origin, has been tapped to write and also serve as executive producer of the series. He will be joined by dj2 Entertainment founder and CEO Dmitri M. Johnson, Stephan Bugaj, and Howard Bliss as executive producers of the project.
The adventurous Croft was first adapted to the big screen by none other than Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie in 2001 and 2003. The franchise was revived in 2018 with Swedish star Alicia Vikander as that titular role. Vikander is set to star in the live-action sequel, which will be written and directed by Misha Green of Lovecraft Country fame.
The Tomb Raider video games, developed by Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montréal and published by Square Enix, have sold more than 84 million copies since it was first launched. The most recent release in the series was 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
Netflix has yet to announce who else will be joining her in the anime series, but it goes without saying that fans will be anticipating more details about the project. It’s always cool to have another female role model to look up to.
