‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ Is Getting A Third Season

The Disney+ mockumentary “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” has officially been renewed for another season!

“We are overjoyed to be heading to the great outdoors for season three and grateful to our partners and friends at Disney+ for their continued support of our next-generation Wildcats,” show creator and executive producer Tim Federle said.

The first two seasons of the show were set and filmed at East High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, while the upcoming season will be set and produced in Los Angeles, California. Since it’s going to be the Wildcats’ summer break in season three, they will be spending their time at a sleepaway camp that will of course be filled with “campfires, summer romances, and curfew-less nights.”

Open-ended

In an interview with Hollywood Life, Tim said that the stories of several characters are not yet set for the next season since some of the cast members have been busy with other projects.

“I think things are open-ended actually for a number of characters just because you want the maximum flexibility going forward,” he said.

“I have so much respect for Olivia [Rodrigo] as a songwriter and as a human and what her own dreams are. I love High School Musical with Olivia. I think Olivia is a massive part of our success, but I think season 3 is sort of a TBD in terms of where Nini’s journey would go.”

Olivia also opened up about the difficulty of balancing her acting and songwriting careers during an interview with The Guardian.

“I think it’s really hard to split time between the two and there are very few artists who do that efficiently, because acting is based on being a good liar and presenting a version of yourself that’s believable, and being a songwriter is the complete opposite,” she said.

Aside from Olivia, Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie Rodriguez, Mark St. Cyr, Kate Reinders, and Joe Serafini also starred in previous seasons of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” According to Variety, a spokesperson for Disney+ said that the cast members for season three “will be announced in the near future.”
