Spooky season may be over already, but there’s a reason to look forward to next year as early as now: Disney Plus is releasing the much-anticipated sequel to 1993 cult-favorite film, Hocus Pocus.
What makes this project so special is that original stars Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker all reprising their roles as the Sanderson sisters from the original film. Production is still ongoing, which means it will take a while for the world to get to see more content from the trio.
To hype fans up, Disney Plus released a photo of the sisters on their Instagram account, saying “original stars Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker all reprising their roles as the Sanderson sisters from the original film.”
The movie is said to pick up where the original movie left off 30 years ago, which means it might just be a good idea to watch the OG flick to jog your memory. In addition to the aforementioned trio, Doug Jones will reprise his role as Billy Butcherson, while Tony Hale, Sam Richardson, Hannah Waddingham, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Henderson, and Nina Kitchen join the cast. How exciting, right?
Just a heads up though, the original star of the movie, Omri Katz, said he hasn’t been asked to reprise his role as Max for the sequel. No confirmation has been given for the return of other original stars Thora Birch, who played his sister Dani, and Vinessa Shaw, who played Allison.
Hocus Pocus 2 is directed by Anne Fletcher, written by Jen D’Angelo, and produced by Walt Disney Pictures. Filming on the movie is reportedly underway in Rhode Island. It’s a pretty cool reason to look forward to next Halloween, right?
