Are you a huge fan of the 1990 classic Home Alone? Well, it looks like the film that shot Macaulay Culkin to superstardom is getting a reboot. As per Philstarlife.com, Disney Plus is releasing a reboot of the Christmas classic this November 12, just in time for the holiday season.
Starring Archie Yates of Jojo Rabbit fame, the movie features a new cast and characters under a similar premise to the original story. Here’s the synopsis of the film, Home Sweet Home Alone, to help hype you up:
“The new Home Alone film, directed by Dan Mazer, follows a mischievous young boy named Max Mercer (played by Archie Yates) who gets left behind when his family travels to Japan for the holidays–very reminiscent of Kevin. Max has to protect a priceless heirloom from a couple (played by Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney) trying to break into his family’s home to steal it. Of course, his tactics include chaotic hijinks and probably a booby trap or two.”
The film will also star Kenan Thompson, Aisling Bea, Pete Holmes, and Tim Simons. Plus, original stars Macaulay Culkin and Devin Ratray are said to reprise their roles as Kevin and Buzz McCallister.
Knowing how the original Home Alone and its sequel has cemented its place in modern film history and has become a favorite family Christmas film, it looks like the upcoming Home Sweet Home Alone has a lot to live up to. Given the other sequels that starred other children and families didn’t enjoy the same success as the original films, we’ll all have to wait and see if this reboot captures the magic of the first two movies.
However, since it first launched, Disney Plus has been able to produce a lot of well-received movies and series, so there’s some hope Home Sweet Home Alone will be a film the whole family can bond over this holiday season.
