Can’t get enough of the British actor Idris Elba? Well, you’re in luck. People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive 2018 is joining a new pop culture franchise you’re most probably familiar with.
Yes, as per Philstarlife.com, the 48-year old actor confirmed that he’s set to voice the live-action version of Knuckles in Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2. How exciting, right?
In case you’re out of the loop, Knuckles, the beloved red echidna in Sega’s iconic video game franchise, first appeared as an antagonist in 1994’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 for Sega Genesis and later became a playable character in the sequel Sonic and Knuckles.
Elba joins Ben Schwartz (Sonic), Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Shemar Moore in the film. This isn’t Elba’s first voice acting project. He’s lent his voice to other family-friendly films such as Zootopia, The Jungle Book, and Finding Dory. He’s also appeared in blockbuster hits such as Thor and Suicide Squad.
What should fans expect from the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel? A leaked synopsis for the second movie installment of Sonic the Hedgehog revealed that Knuckles will help Dr. Robotnik “search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations.” Sonic, on the other hand, will team up with Tails “and embark on a journey to find the emerald before it falls into the wrong hands.”
Sounds like fans will be in for a very fun ride. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is slated to hit theaters in April 2022. It remains to be unseen if Pinoy movie fans will get to watch the film in the cinema, but a lot can happen in the next few months. Regardless, it’s safe to assume that the upcoming flick will be a treat for both old and new fans of Sonic the hedgehog.
