In Netflix’s ‘Army of the Dead,’ Zack Snyder lets a horde of ‘organized’ zombies loose

Zack Snyder is back to orchestrating a zombie apocalypse, and this time, he’s setting loose a different breed of zombies.

On Tuesday, Netflix released the official trailer for Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. With Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler” ominously blaring in the background, the trailer shows a buff Dave Bautista (Guardians of the GalaxySpectre) and a team of mercenaries ransacking a deserted Las Vegas casino and fending off zombies with bats and machine guns — the usual zombie flick deal.

Except it isn’t, because as the trailer teases, these zombies aren’t the regular, brainless, foaming-in-the-mouth kind – they’re “smarter,” “faster,” “more organized.”

And that’s not yet mentioning the zombie tiger.

Watch the action-packed trailer below to know what we’re talking about:

If you think Dave Bautista dashing atop cars while shooting off zombies looks crazy cool, that’s because Army of the Dead follows in the footsteps of Snyder’s another great zombie apocalypse movie, the acclaimed Dawn of the Dead remake. In fact, Snyder has described his latest zombie project as “a full-blown, balls-to-the-wall zombie heist movie” in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

On Tuesday, Snyder also released a teaser of his own: a graphic posted on his Twitter account with the caption: “They are not who you think they are.” Whether this points to the magnified capabilities of the zombies, or to a whole different twist entirely, is for us to know.

Joining Bautista in this unique zombie heist film is Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Matthias Schweighöfer, Theo Rossi, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada and Tig Notaro.

Army of the Dead is set to have a theatrical run starting May 14 and will stream on Netflix starting May 21.
