Here’s what the original creator of the series has to say on the viral news.
This past week, a piece of news caused quite a stir on social media by claiming that GMA’s popular fantasy series Encantadia is set to get a Korean adaptation.
According to a tweet posted by @kdramacommunity, which would later be reposted on Facebook by a page called Oppasensation, the alleged series will be led by Korean stars Kim Ok-bin (Thirst, The Villainess), Ha Ji-won (“Secret Garden,” “The King 2 Hearts”) Lee-Sung-kyung (“Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo”), and Seo Hyun-jin (“Another Miss Oh”) who will play the royal siblings Pirena, Amihan, Alena, and Danaya, respectively.
As of writing, the tweet has garnered over 600 retweets and almost 2,000 likes, while it spread like wildfire on Facebook where it has gotten more than 57,000 shares and 216,000 reactions.
Sorry to burst your bubble, K-drama stans, but the story is all but true, according to the fantasy series’ creator herself.
In a post by Encantadia showrunner Suzette Doctolero sharing the post of Oppasensation, she wrote in the caption that “this is fake news.”
Encantadia first aired on GMA in 2006 and was led by Sunshine Dizon, Iza Calzado, Karylle, and Diana Zubiri as Pirena, Amihan, Alena, and Danaya, respectively. Then, the series was revived by the same network in 2016, this time with Glaiza de Castro, Kylie Padilla, Gabbi Garcia, and Sanya Lopez breathing new life into the four elemental sisters.
While a Korean adaptation of Encantadia isn’t part of any pipeline, by the looks of it, it isn’t a bad idea to binge-watch that show should it happen.
