Janelle Monáe, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista join Netflix’s ‘Knives Out’ sequel

Janelle Monáe, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista join Netflix's 'Knives Out' sequel

The sequel to the Oscar-nominated crime thriller is shaping up to have an equally stellar ensemble.

Jaw-dropping details about Knives Out 2  have been trickling in over the past week. Earlier this week, Dave Bautista was announced to be joining Daniel Craig, who will be reprising his role as the super sleuth with a drawling Southern accent, Detective Benoit Blanc. This also marks the reunion of the two since the 2015 James Bond Film “Spectre.”

The next day, Edward Norton becomes the second name to be attached to the sequel. His latest outing was a trifecta of roles, serving as the writer, director, and lead star of the 2019 neo-noir crime film Motherless Brooklyn, so Norton definitely knows his way around a murder scene.

Then on Wednesday, news came out that Janelle Monáe has been added to the killer cast. Comments from either the casting crew or the actress herself have been scant, but we did get this ominous retweet from the Hidden Figures star:

In fact, Netflix has been silent amid these amazing castings since they bought the rights to the next two installments last march for a whopping $465 million. Maybe it’s to stick to the spirit of the whodunit film, or to keep us wanting to wait for further names to be signed on, but we are loving these developments thus far.

Just as the weekend hit, news came that Kathryn Hahn is joining the murder-mystery cast. The cast is looking stacked so far, and we absolutely can’t wait for Hahn to bring the same mysterious charm she had in WandaVision to Benoit Blanc’s world.

Knives Out 2 sees the return of Rian Johnson to the director’s seat. Even before the first film came out through Lionsgate, Johnson has been vocal about his desire to create sequels focusing on Benoit Blanc investigating further mysteries, with Craig expressing interest to join the subsequent films too. The tall order now is topping the first movie’s star-studded ensemble, which consisted of Christopher Plummer, Ana de Armas, Chris Evans, Toni Colette, Michael Shannon, Jamie Lee Curtis, and LaKeith Stanfield. With what we have so far, though, we don’t doubt the second movie can pull it off, perhaps even exceed it.

Filming for Knives Out 2 doesn’t start until this summer in Greece, so expect to hear even more top stars signing on until then.
