After dropping Sweet Girl on Netflix and ongoing promotion of the high-anticipated epic ensemble movie Dune, Jason Momoa has another Hollywood project you might have heard of: the sequel to the 2018 blockbuster hit Aquaman named Aquaman and the Long Kingdom.
And guess what? It looks like the Atlantian king is getting a darker costume, as per PhilStarLife.com. The actor posted two photos on his Instagram page: the first photo showed him in the classic green and orange costume reminiscent of Aquaman’s original comic book look. The second photo features Momoa in a sleeker and darker stealth suit with armor.
The 42-year old star is currently filming the movie in London and is definitely hyping up the fandom at it. The upcoming DC Extended Universe (DCEU) movie also stars Amber Heard as Mera, alongside Patrick Wilson as Orm/Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as David Kane/Black Manta.
So what should fans expect from the next installment in Aquaman/Arthur Curry’s story? Well, according to the film’s director, James Wan, the sequel touches on his horror roots. “Aquaman 2 is very heavily inspired by Planet of the Vampires,” Wan said. “You can take the boy out of horror, but you can never take the horror out of the boy.”
Wan said the change in tone for the film comes “partially because they were not familiar with the comic book, which deals in this very lurid, strange world.”
“People were taken aback that I didn’t throw all that stuff away and make a dark, heavy film. But I didn’t feel that would have been right for it. So with the second film, I feel it will be easier for people to accept where we go because I’ve already laid the foundation,” Wan said.
Sounds exciting, right? Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated for a December 2022 release. Let’s hope Filipinos can catch the movie in the cinemas by then.
