‘Kun Maupay Man It Panahon’ Starring Daniel Padilla To Premiere At The Locarno Film Festival In Switzerland

Carlo Francisco Manatad‘s film “Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” (with the international title “Whether the Weather is Fine”) will make its world premiere at one of the oldest film festivals in the world, the 74th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

The movie, set during and after the onslaught of the Super Typhoon Yolanda in November 2013, stars Daniel Padilla, Charo Santos-Concio, and Francinne Rifol of MNL48.

According to Dreamscape Entertainment, it tells the story of “a mother and her son [who] struggle for survival and deal with [the] absurdity of fate, sustained by the hope that they carry, and what is lost and gained.”

“Kun Maupay Man It Panahon” was both directed and written by Manatad, who hails from Tacloban City, Leyte. Giancarlo Abrahan (“I’m Drunk, I Love You”) and Jérémie Dubois (“Et avec des animaux”) co-wrote the film with him.

“After xxxxxxxxxxxx years, our film ‘Kun Maupay Man It Panahon’ will be having its world premiere at the 74th Locarno Film Festival. My heartfelt thanks and love to everyone who made this film possible,” Manatad said.

“We are tremendously proud of the journey of ‘Kun Maupay Man It Panahon,’ which is a milestone in Philippine regional cinema. [The] FDCP (Film Development Council of the Philippines) is honored to have supported Carlo Francisco Manatad’s journey from the development and production of this project until now when it’s ready to be shown to the world,” FDCP Chairperson and CEO Liza Diño said.

“We thank Locarno for giving it a world premiere and express our heartfelt gratitude to all international film labs, programs, and organizations for believing in and extending support to a Filipino regional film.”

The 74th edition of the prestigious Switzerland-based film festival will take place from August 4 to 14, 2021. Other Filipino films that will be featured in the event are Alyx Arumpac’s “Aswang,” Cris Bringas’s “Next Picture,” and Sonny Calvento’s “Excuse Me, Miss, Miss, Miss.”
