Can you believe it’s already been two decades since A Walk to Remember premiered? This year marks the 20th anniversary of the classic coming-of-age romantic drama, and Mandy Moore feels the film is due for a reboot. The lead actress revealed that if this ever does happen, she’d like Olivia Rodrigo to reprise her original role as Jamie Sullivan.
A Walk to Remember Reboot
It’s not the first time Mandy has mentioned a reboot. Back in 2018, she expressed on Newsweek that she’d be interested in seeing Beanie Feldstein play a Jewish Jamie Sullivan. And in a more recent interview with People, she said she’d love to see a remake of the 1999 Nicholas Sparks’ film adaptation with Olivia Rodrigo playing her part.
“I would love to see it. It’s been long enough that, yeah, I feel like we’ve earned our place in cinematic history for a reboot at this point,” she said.
Olivia Rodrigo as Jamie Sullivan
Mandy was just 17 years old when she took on the role of Jamie Sullivan, and we could totally see why she thought Olivia could be the right fit for the character. Olivia has been making waves in the music industry with her hit album Sour and was cast as Nini in High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Given her acting skills and vocal abilities, there’s no doubt she can bag the part.
Meanwhile, the “drivers license” singer confessed to GQ that she still doesn’t know where her career will take her in the following years. “I just think it’s about finding projects and writing songs I feel really feel passionate about,” she said. Fingers crossed that she considers auditioning for A Walk to Remember when they officially announce a remake.
We can already imagine hearing her sing her heart out to Switchfoot’s “Only Hope.” Any thoughts on who should be her Shane West?
