Money Heist announces spin-off “Berlin”

Since it was first released in 2017, Money Heist or La Casa de Papel has captivated the world. With the show wrapping up after five seasons this December, a lot of fans are excited to find out the conclusion of the show. However, they are also sad for the narrative to end.

On the flip side, the content streaming giant just announced that the story will still continue for some of the show’s characters. As per Deadline, the streamer has ordered a spinoff of the hit Spanish drama series, centered around popular character Berlin, otherwise known as Andrés de Fonollosa, played by Pedro Alonso. The show is slated to launch this 2023, so it will take a while before you get to see him in action.

As exciting as this announcement may be for Money Heist fans, Netflix didn’t disclose a lot of information about the upcoming show. What we do know for now is that the Berlin character is the second-in-command of the Royal Mint of Spain heist and also planned the Bank of Spain heist, which he shared with The Professor and Palermo.

Despite dying earlier during the show, Berlin is considered one of the series most popular characters and is a fan favorite among audiences despite his many flaws. Spanish actor Alonso himself and series creator Alex Pina both publicly described Berlin’s character as deplorable, misogynistic, racist, and a sometimes-psychopath in last year’s Netflix documentary Money Heist: The Phenomenon.

This announcement comes after it was announced that a Korean adaptation of Money Heist is in the works. The star of another Netflix hit show Park Hae-soo of Squid Game is going to play the character of Berlin.

Needless to say, things sound pretty exciting for fans of the show. 2023 couldn’t come any sooner, right?
