It’s time to look for a new k-drama to binge over the holidays. But wait, all the new ones on Netflix seem a little too heavy for the casual viewer. If you’re hoping to watch something light-hearted and utterly hilarious, we are absolutely recommending TVN’s new weekend drama, Mr. Queen.
Produced by YG STUDIOPLEX, Mr. Queen is not your regular period drama. The plot follows a man named Bong-hwan from the modern age, being trapped in the body of Queen Cheorin (played by Shin Hye Sun) in the Joseon Era. She marries King Cheol-jong (Kim Jung Hyun) who seems easy-going and gullible, but hides a lot of secrets behind being the “puppet king”. As Bong-hwan struggles to get back into his original body, he must play chess carefully with the people in the palace.
The series is only 4 episodes in but has garnered the 2nd highest ratings for weekend dramas in South Korea, making it a series highly anticipated every week. We love the refreshing take on a female lead, and Shin Hye Sun puts on a superb performance as a man in a woman’s body. The hilarious combination of Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun will keep you laughing and on your toes.
