Other exciting revelations to come out of WitcherCon include expanded plans for the franchise. There’s The Witcher: Blood Origin, a six-part live-action miniseries that will serve as a prequel to the main show and will star Sophia BrownLaurence O’Fuarain, and Michelle Yeoh. Speaking of prequels, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an animated film set for release this August, will cover the origin story of Geralt’s mentor and fellow witcher Vesemir. The animation will be care of South Korea’s Studio Mir, the same studio that gave us The Legend of Korra.

The online event hosted by Netflix with Cyberpunk and The Witcher game developer Projekt Red, which streamed live on Twitch and YouTube on Friday, also unveiled some much-awaited news about the future of the video game franchise. One such special news talked about the re-release of Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for next-generation consoles coming later this year from CPDR, which will also include some free DLCs to coincide with the show’s second season premiere.

Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, The Witcher is based on a book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, and is set on a fictional, medieval-inspired territory known as “The Continent.” The series was an instant hit when it premiered in 2019, becoming the most in-demand TV series in the world across all platforms by year-end.
